Why are we doing this?

Maybe it was stepping on a stray sewing needle for the umpteenth time or maybe it was when my husband bought a bandsaw and turned our small back porch into a woodworking shop, but at some point something became very clear: we needed a space for our projects.

As a young family we were adjusting to the reality that our 4 month old would soon be very mobile and the various tools and sharp objects laying around our 1000 square foot house would soon transform from “clutter” to “life endangering death traps”… my husband, Blayne, currently works a desk job that we are all grateful for but he has always wanted to be able to work with his hands on creative projects while I, while not contact napping or nursing, have always needed some way to get my ideas from my head into reality. One day Blayne looked at me and said “I want to open a makers space.”

“A what?”

After further explanation and the added bonus of having access to machines that we cannot afford or store otherwise, I was all in!

There are so many people like us out there: many of our friends are young, starting families, and simply do not have the space or funds for the equipment needed learn a craft even though homemade hand-crafted items cost less, reduce waste, last longer, and mean far more to us.

I hope you will follow us on our journey to opening this space for all levels of creatives and maybe we will all learn something along the way!
